OPINION:
One of the major issues on which President Trump ran and won was border security. He is to a very large degree responsible for the Republican House majority. Yet Republicans cannot bring themselves to muster the guts or discipline to get an immigration/border security bill to the Senate before they lose the ability to do so. Frustration with the Senate is understandable but it does not excuse their failure to act.
House Republicans’ failure pulls the rug out from under the president, as Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi will loudly and correctly proclaim, “Trump couldn’t even get the Republican House to support him.”
They should stay in session 24 hours a day, seven days a week until they get it done. After all, we have thousands of our finest in lousy situations day in and day out protecting us. It is not too much to ask that Congress act in such a way as to warrant these men and women’s commitment.
