CAYCE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have released the names of two people killed in a wrong-way crash on a South Carolina interstate highway.

The Highway Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. Monday near the intersection of I-77 and I-26 southeast of Columba.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said in a news release that 79-year-old John L. McCravy of Columbia was driving south in I-77’s northbound lanes and hit another vehicle in a head-on crash. McCravy was taken to a Columbia-area hospital where he died.

The driver of the other vehicle, 42-year-old Marie S. Vargas-Kincade of West Columbia, died at the scene.

State troopers continue to investigate the wreck.
