Jared Kushner is now in Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s political crosshairs.
The New York Democrat who warned Donald Trump Jr. on Dec. 7 that she would soon be “a member of a body that will have subpoena power” turned her sights on the president’s son-in-law Friday. At issue is the possibility that Mr. Kushner, President Trump’s senior adviser, will replace White House Chief of Staff John Kelly as he exits the administration.
“Ah yes, of course, it’s classic Republican ’bootstrap’ meritocracy: where the smartest, hardest-working, most-fitting person for the job just so happens to be your son-in-law,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
The politician’s jab was in response to reporting by CBS Chief Washington Correspondent Major Garrett.
Critics pointed out that accusations of nepotism can be levied just as easily at prominent Democrats throughout history.
Some pointed to President John F. Kennedy’s brother, Robert F. Kennedy, who served as attorney general. Others noted Chelsea Clinton’s position within the Clinton Foundation.
Mr. Trump told reporters last weekend that Mr. Kelly will be gone by the end of the year.
