RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - The College of St. Joseph in Vermont could lose its accreditation by August because of financial issues.
The Rutland Herald reports the New England Commission of Higher Education will move to withdraw accreditation from the Rutland college by Aug. 31 if administrators don’t show that finances have improved. CSJ was notified in July that its resources didn’t meet standards.
The college has struggled with enrollment and revenue issues. Former president Larry Jensen said in April the school had $500,000 left of its $5 million endowment.
CSJ President Jennifer Scott says she remains confident in a three-phase plan involving stabilization, rebuilding and growth. Scott says officials were told the college had two years to turn finances around.
Castleton University will accept CSJ students if the college loses its accreditation.
