LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Rock Region Metro is eliminating its $1 fares for its streetcar rides in downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock in hopes of boosting ridership.
The agency says the streetcar rides will be free for all of 2019. According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette , streetcar ridership has dropped to an all-time low, and officials are hopeful that eliminating the fares will get more people to use the public transportation system.
Rock Region Metro Executive Director Charles Frazier says the yearlong promotion is expected to cost just under $52,000.
The agency usually has about three streetcars circulating on two routes daily through downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock.
