PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island insurance agent who specializes in insuring horses has pleaded guilty to defrauding clients, insurance companies and finance companies out of $1.3 million.

Federal prosecutors in Rhode Island say 57-year-old Randall Levesque, owner of Equine Insurance Services LLC and Randall Levesque Agency, in Middletown, pleaded guilty Wednesday to wire fraud.

Authorities say Levesque overbilled and double-billed customers, sometimes forging their signatures; collected $800,000 in premiums from customers he did not forward to insurance companies; and submitted financing agreements to finance companies for fictitious customers.

He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison at sentencing scheduled for March 12.
