WEYBRIDGE, Vt. (AP) - Officials in Weybridge, Vermont, say a historic cemetery is in danger of eroding and washing into a creek.
Vermont Old Cemetery Association President Tom Giffin tells WCAX-TV nothing has been done to improve conditions at the Brittle Azra Stow Cemetery since officials devised a plan earlier this year to save it. Giffin says a state archaeologist found human remains near a bank last week.
According to Giffin, a soldier who fought in the Bunker Hill during the American Revolution is buried alongside his wife in the cemetery. He says the state could lose the veteran’s remains if conditions worsen.
Giffin hopes the state helps restore the cemetery before the wet season.
