CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Gov. Matt Mead has appointed Kerri M. Johnson as the newest district judge for the 7th Judicial District.

Johnson fills the vacancy occurring with the retirement of Judge W. Thomas Sullins, effective Jan. 7.

Johnson is a native of Wyoming and graduated from Kelly Walsh High School in Casper. She attended college at Casper College and Chadron State, and received her law degree from the University of Wyoming.

For the past 20 years, she has served in the Office of the Public Defender. As a public defender, she represents indigent clients charged with crimes in state courts.

In a statement, Johnson says she’s committed to working hard to preserve the system of justice.
