NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - The superintendent of Newport’s school system says she will hold a series of forums regarding a recent assault at Thompson Middle School.

Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain says the meetings will share school officials’ practices for communication and to listen to parent concerns. WJAR-TV reports meetings will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Officials say two brothers are accused of attacking another student last week. The victim has since been released from the hospital.

The brothers’ names weren’t released because of their ages.

Officials say one of the brothers, a 12-year-old seventh-grader, hit the 14-year-old victim with a bat and his brother, a 14-year-old eighth-grader, punched the victim. Police say the attack stemmed from a dispute from outside the school.
