COXSACKIE, N.Y. (AP) - Investigators in the Hudson Valley are working to determine the cause of a house fire that killed a former firefighter.

The Times Union reports 74-year-old Larry Connolly died Saturday after a fire broke out at his Coxsackie home.

Coxsackie Fire Chief Shawn Burdick says Good Samaritans pulled Connolly’s wife from the burning home. Officials say the woman wasn’t injured in the blaze. Heat and smoke prevented crews from reaching Connolly on the third floor.

According to Burdick, Connolly had been a lifetime member of Coxsackie’s fire department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
