PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Yes, it’s really that hot. The capital city of Rhode Island is officially in the middle of a heat wave.
The National Weather Service says the city qualified as of 11:33 a.m. Tuesday, in the third day in a row of temperatures at 90 degrees or above. Today’s high temperature is 94 degrees, only two short of a 96 degree record set in 1918. The heat index is currently 96 degrees with that expected to rise into the late afternoon.
A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. The weather service is recommending staying indoors and drinking plenty of fluids.
