LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) - Crews have been searching for a 20-year-old man who went missing after his kayak capsized in Lake Michigan north of Chicago.
The Coast Guard resumed the search Tuesday morning after looking by boat and helicopter for a few hours beginning Monday night near the northern suburb of Lake Forest.
Highland Park police identified the missing man as Sebastian Duncan of Glenview. Duncan was initially identified as a Northwestern University student. School officials say he isn’t.
Coast Guard officials say Duncan and another man went out in Lake Michigan in separate kayaks and encountered rough waters amid high winds about 9 p.m. One man was able to swim to shore and seek help after both kayaks took on water and overturned. Officials say it appeared neither man was wearing a life jacket.
