PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a stolen rental truck driven by a burglary suspect struck a police vehicle responding to an alarm and then collided with a tow truck before striking a woman who died of her injuries.
Sgt. Vince Lewis says the 39-year-old driver of the stolen U-Haul truck used in the burglary of a cellphone store early Wednesday morning then stopped the stolen truck and ran but was taken into custody nearby.
Lewis said the man would be jailed after being treated for “non-incapacitating injuries.” His identity wasn’t released.
The pedestrian who died was identified as 45-year-old Dawn Bestenlehner.
