LAGRANGE, Ga. (AP) - A new interim superintendent has been appointed for a school system in a west Georgia county.

The LaGrange Daily News reports that Roy Nichols was appointed the interim position on Monday night for the Troup County School System. Nichols replaces Cole Pugh, who resigned as superintendent.

Nichols served as the county’s superintendent from 1999-2004. He left to take a position at the University of West Georgia, where he became an educational leadership professor and the department chair in that field of study.

Nichols became the superintendent of the Mobile County School district in Alabama in 2007. He retired four years later.

Pugh has served as superintendent in Troup since 2011. His resignation was accepted by board members who did not give the reasoning behind Pugh’s stepping down from the position.
