PITTSBURGH (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a man was critically injured when he was struck by lightning in a Pittsburgh park.

City public safety spokesman Chris Togneri said the 45-year-old man was struck by lightning in Schenley Park just after 2 p.m. Monday.

Togneri said bystanders performed CPR until paramedics arrived and transported the man to UPMC Presbyterian, where he was listed in critical condition.

The lightning strike occurred as a severe thunderstorm warning had been posted for the area. WTAE-TV reports that a witness said the man was playing soccer when he was hit.
