BURLINGTON, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say the New Jersey man accused of fleeing a crash of a vehicle into the Delaware River that claimed the life of his girlfriend rejected an 18-year plea offer on his first-degree vehicular homicide charge.

NJ.com reports that Jacob Garrett was held for trial on the charge as well as counts of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, causing death while driving on a suspended license and endangering an injured victim.

The charges stem from a Jan. 14 crash in Burlington that killed 23-year-old Stephanie White. Prosecutors have said Garrett may have been drinking and on drugs at the time.

Burlington County prosecutors said Monday the 18-year deal offered before Garrett was indicted is no longer on the table, and the offer now is 23 years.
