PLAINFIELD, N.J. (AP) - A driver accused of killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident is now facing charges.
Authorities announced Monday that 37-year-old Lavar Jones, of South Plainfield, is accused of leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
They say Jones was driving in Plainfield when he struck Sergio Cuxun-Tista around 2:35 a.m. Sunday. The 39-year-old Plainfield man, who was trying to cross a street at the time, was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities say Jones fled the scene but was arrested a short time later. They haven’t provided further details about what led to his capture.
It’s not known if Jones has retained an attorney.
