ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - Some South Dakota school districts are being forced to extend the academic year because of days they missed over the winter and spring due to snow storms.
The American News reports that the Aberdeen School District has added five days to its calendar to make up for days missed due to bad weather. The last day of classes has been moved from May 17 to May 24.
The Webster Area School District also has added five days, due in part to weather but also to city water problems.
State law designates a minimum number of hours of instruction that students need in a school year.
