OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Officials have placed the longtime executive director of the Port of Olympia on paid administrative leave and have selected a temporary replacement.

The Olympian reports the port commission Monday appointed the port’s airport director Rudy Rudolph to serve as acting executive director while Ed Galligan is on leave.

Port Commissioner Joe Downing says the port needed change because “there are new challenges and that requires new leadership.” He says an error or mistake by Galligan did not precipitate the commission’s decision.

The newspaper was unable to reach Galligan for comment Tuesday.

Galligan has served as executive director since November 2005.

Downing says the commission will need to decide whether to keep or terminate Galligan.
