Comedian Amy Schumer said her starring role in “I Feel Pretty” should have gone to a minority actress with a “harder” life story.

The star of “Trainwreck” told the ladies of “The View” Friday that it was unfortunate that she as a white woman secured the lead for STX Entertainment’s “I Feel Pretty.” Ms. Schumer plays a character who hits her head and wakes up believing she is “the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet.”

“It’s not about an ugly, vile troll getting beautiful,” the actress said in response to critics of the movie’s premise. “It’s about a girl who really struggles with self-esteem, which is something we can all relate to. So, it just made me excited for people to see the movie. But also, I think it is fair to say that, you know, that it’s a lot harder for other people … and I recognize that I am a Caucasian, like — I would love if this movie were starring a woman of color who’s had it way harder than me, and I think and I hope we get there. This is hopefully just a step in the right direction.”

Early tracking for the PG-13 film suggests it will pull $13 million-$15 million in North America opening weekend.

The movie review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes currently scores the film 36 percent “Rotten” among 105 critics.
