LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man charged with beating his girlfriend so severely she suffered bleeding in her brain has acknowledged the prosecution has evidence that proves he’s too dangerous to release.

Christopher Martini was in court in Lowell on Wednesday for a dangerousness hearing, but agreed to be held without bail.

The Lowell Sun reports that Martini is charged with beating his 37-year-old girlfriend last week, leaving bruises all over her body and causing severe bleeding in the woman’s brain.

The woman’s friend says the victim is expected to survive but it remains unclear how long it will take her to recover.

Martini’s attorney says his client denies causing the victim’s injuries, arguing he suffers from a “plethora” of mental health issues.
