WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) - The Latest on a fatal police shooting in Utah (all times local):

5:40 p.m.

A Utah police agency is releasing body camera videos of a fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man that show he was killed as officers shouted at him to put his hands up.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the videos from the April 8 shooting were made public Tuesday during a news conference in which West Valley Police Chief Colleen Jacobs said they believe the deceased, Elijah Smith, was reaching for a modified screwdriver in a threatening motion when he was shot.

The officers can be heard in the videos shouting at Smith to get his hands up as they stood above him from a stairwell at the entrance to a garage where they found Smith after chasing him as a suspect in a cellphone store theft. He had one hand in the air, but the other was in his pocket.

The shooting of Smith, who is black, has triggered protests by his family and anti-police brutality groups.

Dave Newlin of Utahns Against Police Brutality says the videos show racism against a terrified young man who was trying to get both hands in the air.

The unidentified officer is on leave pending an investigation of the shooting.
