ABINGTON, Mass. (AP) - A road race that raises money for a foundation named in memory of a victim of the 9/11 terrorist attacks from Massachusetts is scheduled for this weekend.
The 16th annual Jeff Coombs Memorial 5K Race, Walk and Family Day takes place Sunday in Abington.
The race, which attracts about 1,200 participants, raises about $50,000 annually. The money goes to the Coombs Memorial Foundation . Over the years, the foundation has given out hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants to families in need, area schools and for college scholarships.
Coombs was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11 that took off from Boston and was crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York. He died a week before his 43rd birthday, leaving behind his wife, Christie, and three children.
