SOMERS, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut State Police say two Massachusetts women are dead after their vehicle crashed head-on into a tree.

The car was headed northbound Friday afternoon in Somers when the driver left the roadway and struck the tree.

Troopers say the driver, 72-year-old Ruth Chake, of Springfield, Massachusetts, and her 69-year-old passenger Bette Bradsley, of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, were taken to different hospitals where they died.

Police say both women were wearing seatbelts.

Authorities are investigating.
