LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The missing daughter of a sheriff in southern Louisiana and her baby sitter have been found safe after officials say both drifted into the swamp.

Local news media reports that Lafayette Parish’s Sheriff Mark Garber’s 7-year-old daughter Cora Garber and 21-year-old Juliana Brooks were found safe in the Lake Martin area on Tuesday. Both were reported missing Monday evening after both took a canoe out in the swamp near Garber’s home.

Officials believe both drifted off course because of high water in the swamp.
