NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Police in Newark are searching for the hit-and-run driver of a car they say struck and injured a 3-year-old child.

Authorities say a black convertible Mercedes-Benz drove off without stopping after the child was hit at an intersection. It happened around 5:20 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities say the child followed a relative into the street, and the relative was unaware that the child was in the road until the accident occurred.

The child suffered undisclosed minor injuries and was treated at a hospital. The cvhild’s name and gender have not been released.
