LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a passenger is dead and the driver injured after he wrecked trying to pass several cars in the emergency lane of a South Carolina interstate.
Highway Patrol Cpl. David Jones said the driver lost control while driving on the side of Interstate 20 near the U.S. Highway 378 exit in Lexington County and overturned several times around 7 p.m. Saturday.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said in a statement that 21-year-old Wyatt Duval was ejected from the car and died at the scene.
Jones says the driver was trapped in the car and had to be cut out. He remains at the hospital.
Jones says no other vehicles were struck.
A special team of troopers is investigating the wreck. No charges have been filed.
