HAWTHORNE, Calif. (AP) - A man wearing a vest with wires protruding from it barricaded himself inside a California Wells Fargo bank, and the ensuing standoff with police lasted eight hours before he was taken into custody.
The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/2hACSKN ) Hawthorne Police Lt. Jim Royer says the vest was not a bomb and the man was not armed Wednesday at a Hawthorne Wells Fargo. Royer says the man was taken into custody about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
The man’s motive was unclear, and Royer says the man did not communicate with police “throughout the entire incident.”
Royer says at about 6:25 p.m., bank workers called authorities when the man refused to leave the bank at closing time. An employee told authorities the man had been to the bank previously.
