ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Police were investigating whether the fatal stabbing of a 37-year-old Pennsylvania woman was justified or not.

The Lehigh County coroner says 37-year-old Chanelle Marie Allen died shortly after the stabbing was reported about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday in Allentown.

Allentown police say a 65-year-old man was taken into custody, but police didn’t immediately charge him in the woman’s death because they couldn’t determine if the stabbing was in self-defense or otherwise justified.

The woman reportedly staggered from a residence and collapsed on a sidewalk. She died on the way to a hospital.
