POLAND, Maine (AP) - Police say a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Maine may have fallen asleep at the wheel after working all night.
The Androscoggin Sheriff’s Department says it’s investigating Wednesday morning’s fatal crash in a town called Poland.
Police say the crash killed 47-year-old Richard Knox, of York County. They say a preliminary investigation shows Knox was struck by a vehicle operated by 52-year-old Grace Sleeper, who’s from Oxford.
Police say Sleeper suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was transported to a hospital in Lewiston. A hospital spokesman says Sleeper is no longer hospitalized there.
Police say alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the fatal crash.
There’s no home telephone number listed for Sleeper, who can’t be reached for comment.
