SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies say they’ve arrested a man suspected of attacking a 70-year-old female hiker along a Santa Clarita trail.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/2fyanwS ) two cyclists claim they saw the 29-year-old man strangle the woman until she lost consciousness on Tuesday morning. The cyclists detained the man until law enforcement arrived to the scene.

The hiker was taken to a hospital, where she is listed in fair condition.



The man was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Investigators say it’s unclear what motivated the attack.
