NEW ROADS, La. (AP) - A city employee in south Louisiana has been arrested on charges he stole more than $8,000 in public funds.

Attorney General Jeff Landry’s office said in a news release that 28-year-old Willie Woods, of New Roads, was arrested Friday on charges of felony theft, malfeasance in office and computer fraud.

Woods was the accounts clerk for the city of New Roads in Pointe Coupee Parish.

Landry’s office says Woods stole more than $6,000 from the collection of traffic tickets and $2,550 from the collection of rental fees and deposits for a civic center over a six-month period.
