CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Authorities in Rhode Island say two men were seriously injured when a ladder fell and became entangled in overhead power lines.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud bang and seeing fire at the base of the ladder Thursday night in Cranston.

Police say one man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The other suffered severe burns and lost all of his toes.

Cranston Police Chief Michael Jay Winquist tells The Providence Journal the voltage was high enough to melt parts of the ladder.
