OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An associate pastor at an Omaha Catholic school has been fired after church officials say he asked middle school students whether they watched pornography or masturbated.
A letter sent Monday to parents of students at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic School said the priest last week had asked seventh- and eighth-graders those questions during confession.
A Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Omaha spokesman told the Omaha World-Herald that the 26-year-old priest was ordained in June and is inexperienced. Spokesman Tim McNeil says the priest was overzealous and made a lapse in judgment in questioning the students.
The priest was fired Friday, a day after the inappropriate questions were asked.
McNeil says no decision has been made about the priest’s next assignment, and there’s no effort to remove him from the priesthood.
