COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - A police chase beginning in Alabama has ended in a three-car crash in Georgia.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Phenix City police officers were pursuing 35-year-old Edward Baez when the chase crossed state lines, ending in a Columbus intersection Tuesday afternoon.

The drivers of the cars involved in the crash were not involved in the chase. One was transported to a hospital with neck and back pain.

Police say Baez ran away after the crash but was captured and arrested afterward.

It’s unclear why authorities were pursuing him.

He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, disregarding a traffic control device, reckless driving, no proof of insurance, no state tag and fleeing to elude. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
