DEER PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 94-year-old man is dead after a Long Island Rail Road train hit his truck while it was on the tracks.

Police say it wasn’t clear why the car was on the tracks in Deer Park in Suffolk County. According to the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the train had departed Penn Station around 11 a.m. Monday and was heading to Ronkonkoma.

The driver died at the scene. His name hasn’t been released. No one on board the train was injured.



Service was suspended in both directions following the collision. Service was restored around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
