GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after he was found guilty of killing someone who was trying to stop a home invasion.

Solicitor Walt Wilkins said a jury found 26-year-old Marqual Griffin guilty of murder, first-degree burglary, two counts of kidnapping and other charges Wednesday.

Wilkins says Griffin forced his way into a Greenville home in December 2015, holding people at gunpoint and demanding money and drugs.

Authorities say 33-year-old Nathan Crouch tried to stop Griffin from attacking the people in the home and was shot three times.

Wilkins said in a statement that Griffin will have to serve every day of the 45-year sentence.
