STOWE, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont firefighter is making his way to the Florida Keys with a truck full of supplies for victims of Hurricane Irma.

John Steele, a firefighter in Stowe, says he is independently driving down to the Keys with supplies donated from about 20 businesses in the area. WCAX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2h6Ylan ) he is hauling about $70,000 worth of supplies - $20,000 of which comes from him and his wife.

Steele says he’s doing this because of how people have helped him and his family when he was in need.

He says he plans to stop at fire departments and other places where supplies are needed.
