DENVER (AP) - A child died in a hit-and-run north of Thornton and police are searching for a white sport utility vehicle witnesses reported seeing driving away from the scene.

Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Rob Madden says the boy was hit at about 7:40 p.m. Monday. The boy was taken to the hospital, where he died. His name and age have not been released.

Investigators did not initially release any more information about the suspect vehicle or driver.
