TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Developers plan to create a nature habitat above a 17-million-gallon sewage tank in northwest Ohio.
The Blade reports the Downtown Storage Basin site north of downtown Toledo will serve as a habitat for birds and butterflies once the tank is finished.
A bicycle and pedestrian trail will cross the habitat and an observation area has been proposed.
The $44 million tank is part of the Toledo Waterways Initiative, a program to decrease the amount of raw sewage flowing into local waterways by 80 percent.
Construction on the tank is expected to take three years. Portions of the project will require detours lasting as long as six months at four Toledo intersections while sewer pipe connections are modified.
