PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Ceremonies are planned throughout Rhode Island to mark the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Rhode Island State Police will host a remembrance ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Monday at police headquarters in North Scituate, Rhode Island.
Politicians, police officers, firefighters and family members of victims killed in the attacks and while serving in the military are expected to attend. The public is invited.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo and members of the state’s congressional delegation plan to speak.
Other Monday ceremonies are planned at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Oakland Beach in Warwick and Central Falls Public Safety Complex in Central Falls.
In Newport, remarks will be given by the college’s comptroller, Mark Murphy, a retired Navy captain who was working in the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
