DETROIT (AP) - Police in Detroit are working with local businesses to ship personal care items to officers, firefighters and other first responders in Texas who are helping victims of Harvey.

Donations for the “Houston Relief Run” will be collected from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Thursday at Detroit’s Public Safety Headquarters.

Deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap, bottled water, underwear, socks and mosquito repellant are among the items requested. A semitrailer will deliver them to the Houston Police Department for further distribution.

Detroit police say the goal is to support first responders so they can continue “rescue efforts around the clock.”

Harvey made landfall Aug. 25 along the Texas Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane. Flooding has left thousands of people homeless. First responders and volunteers have rescued dozens of people.
