GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A man pleaded no contest to the charge of killing a 60-year-old Great Falls man after testimony from a cellmate surfaced.
The Great Falls Tribune reports (https://gftrib.com/2xDbOhQ ) Brett McDermott’s plea on Thursday does not mean he’s guilty, rather that the evidence would likely secure a conviction at the trial for the January 2016 death of Bradley Boland. Boland’s body was found in his home beaten with a fractured vertebrae and hemorrhaging in his skull.
A sentencing hearing has not been set. Prosecutors have recommended a 40-year prison or state hospital sentence. They have also agreed to drop assault and tampering with physical evidence charges.
Great Falls Police Detective Keith Hedges says a cellmate claimed McDermott shared details of how the killing occurred. The information provided matched what police uncovered during the investigation.
