COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A man who has worked with the Secret Service for 20 years has been nominated to serve as U.S. Marshal for South Carolina.
The White House said in a news release Tuesday that Thomas M. Griffin, Jr. has been nominated for the post. Griffin has headed the Secret Service office in Greenville since 2010. He previously worked for the agency in New Jersey, Maryland and Washington D.C.
He also worked with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department from 1985 to 1996. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.
Griffin would replace U.S. Marshal Kelvin Washington, who has held the South Carolina post for seven years after being recommended by U.S. Jim Clyburn and then-President Barack Obama.
Griffin’s nomination must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
