MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - After four decades with the department, Marietta’s fire chief has announced he will retire in December.

The city says Jackie Gibbs has decided his last day will be Dec. 1.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Gibbs announced the retirement in a news release. He said it has been his pleasure to serve Marietta and its residents.

Marietta spokeswoman Lindsey Wiles said the city will advertise the position after the first of the year, making it open to candidates locally and nationally.
