MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Democrats are blasting a plan to merge the University of Wisconsin System’s schools.
Assembly Democrats along with Democratic state Sen. Jon Erepnbach sent a letter Wednesday to system President Ray Cross complaining about a lack of collaboration and deliberation in developing the plan. They told him to slow down and form a stakeholder group to discuss the merger.
Cross announced this month that he wants to make the system’s two-year schools regional branches of the four-year schools. He says the move is designed to combat declining two-year enrollment.
System spokeswoman Stephanie Marquis said Thursday Cross hadn’t gotten the letter but stressed the plan is meant to maintain a UW presence across Wisconsin.
She added that students, faculty and staff all would be included in implementation if regents approve the merger.
