McDONOUGH, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia school district has chosen a new superintendent of schools.

The Henry County Schools Board of Education named Dr. Mary Elizabeth Davis to the post during a special called meeting Tuesday.

Davis currently serves as the chief academic officer for Cobb County Public Schools. Since 2014, Davis has been responsible for the advancement of teaching and learning of 114,000 students across 112 schools.

She will replace Superintendent Rodney Bowler, who announced his retirement in April.

In a statement, Davis thanked the board, saying she was excited to start work and “begin the next chapter of this important work together.”

Davis’ new job is effective Wednesday, Nov. 8.
