WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) - Utah firefighting agencies are sending about a dozen more fire engines to help battle wildfires in California.
The additional personnel and equipment are departing Saturday from West Valley City for what could be a three-week deployment. The additional engines raise Utah’s total deployment of fire engines to California to 31.
Jurisdictions and agencies sending fire engines Saturday include Salt Lake City, Unified Fire Authority, Provo, West Valley, West Jordan, South Jordan, Drape and Pleasant Grove.
The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands previously deployed numerous engines and crews from local jurisdiction.
Division spokesman Joe Dougherty says the Utah personnel and equipment will help relieve California firefighters burdened from continuous operations.
