Voters defeat tax ballot issues in 2 Wyoming counties

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming voters in two counties have soundly defeated tax increase proposals to benefit local community colleges.

Voters in Campbell County on Tuesday defeated a proposed quarter-cent excise tax for Gillette College and economic development.

Proponents of the tax said it would provide the college with a stable form of revenue.

In Laramie County, voters rejected paying higher property taxes to fund $29.5 million in building projects at Laramie County Community College.

The money would have gone toward a new student dormitory, renovation of a fine arts building and renovation of a recreation center.
