ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A video of a paralyzed diving coach taking a plunge from the high dive into a pool is making a splash on social media, with more than 45 million views in less than a week.

The video of 44-year-old Cliff Devries’ dive was posted online by the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle on Friday. Devries is head diving coach at Rochester Institute of Technology and makes a dive once a year on his birthday.

A brain tumor removed 22 years ago left him paralyzed on his right side. In the video, Devries shuffles haltingly to the end of the 3-meter board, almost falls, then plunges head-first into the water. Two students help him out of the pool.

Devries is a six-time Upper New York State Athletic Conference Diving Coach of the Year.
